How to Check the Pressure on Your Manual Heat Transfer Press: The Dollar Bill Test”

It is extremely important that your heat transfer press maintains a consistent level of even pressure when in use. To be certain it does, a simple but effective pressure test can be performed using a dollar bill.

Step 1: Pre-heat your press to 375° Fahrenheit or 190.5° Celsius. It is necessary to conduct this test while your press is “Hot” because your platen may become warped when heated. CAUTION! The edges of your press are “Hot” and will burn you!

Step 2: Place a dollar bill halfway on and halfway off the lower platen in the center front edge of the press.

Step 3: Close the upper platen into the locked pressing position. The bill should be firmly pressed between the upper and lower platens.

Step 4: Pull the dollar bill out from between the platens. If you can’t remove the bill your pressure setting is adequate. However, If you can remove the bill adjust your pressure setting and repeat steps 2 and 3 until you cannot remove the bill.

If the dollar bill continues to slip out after repeated tries contract your heat press supplier or manufacturer for suggestions
